A parent Greater Spotted Woodpecker feeding its juvenile chick. Our fatball feeder proved really successful and the woodpecker family were regular visitors. On this occasion I had sat and waited in the sunlight, then I heard a noise and saw a woodpecker- behind it was the chick. The adult started pecking at the fatballs and the fledgling was pecking at the perch. This photograph is the moment after the adult had been feeding the chick from its own bill.
